2001年7月教育部颁布的《国家英语课程标准》改变了我国传统英语教学中过多依赖终结性评价的评价方式，提出了形成性评价与终结性评价相结合的评价方式，明确提出了评价的目的是为了激励学生学习，使学生获得成就感，增强自信心，使评价能促进学生的发展。为了使评价在学生的发展中更能发挥作用，教师必须在形成性评价上多下功夫。通过一阶段的教学实践，我觉得，教师如能在评价中注意以下问题，评价将更有利于学生的发展。一，评价应有利于学生应用语言能力的发展。我们都知道英语是交流的工具，学习英语的目的是为了交流。如果我们在评价学生时只是局限于学生是否会做题或会背诵某一内容，这就失去了英语学习的目的。所以，我们在评价学生时也应围绕学生应用语言进行交流的能力展开。譬如有的学生能一词不错的背诵整篇课文或大段对话，但在实际情景中却不能灵活运用，这其实还没有真正完全起到交流的目的。而也有学生虽不会背，却能根据文章大意，用自己的语言把文章复述出来。显而易见，在此过程中，英语确实成为了交流的工具，这正是我们英语教学的目的所在。因此，我平时在进行对话教学时，经常采用提问、鼓励学生根据实际情况编制对话，或干脆让他们复述出对话的内容等形式来评价学生的学习情况。虽然学生表达过程中的流利程度不一定会有背诵那么好，但我同样给他们以良好的评价，以促进他们更多地使用英语，使他们逐步养成用英语进行交流的习惯。二，评价应有利于促进学生学习信心的提高。新的《标准》在阐述评价的作用时指出，评价要“使学生不断体验进步与成功，认识自我、建立自信，促进学生综合语言运用能力的全面发展”。因此我在对学生、特别是学业有困难的学生进行形成性评价时，多从终向加以比较，充分肯定他们的进步，鼓励他们积极进取，不断获取成功，让他们在点滴的成功中不断体会到自己的价值，从而激发他们的学习兴趣和积极性，使他们在继续学习的道路上充满信心，能以积极向上的心态投入到新的学习生活中去。例如，为了让有些学生过好单词关，我鼓励他们由少到多地进行记忆，并帮助他们及时进行阶段总结，前后比较，对他们的进步给于充分肯定。一段时间后，这些学生记忆单词的能力有了提高，信心和兴趣也隨　之有了提高。三，多使用描述性的语言来评价学生以前我们对学生进行评价时，经常采用的是分数或等第，特别是在终结性评价中使用的就更多，这种评价方式对于学生来说，缺少一种感情色彩。如果我们在评价中经常使用一些描述性的语言来对学生进行评价，多对他们进行鼓励，这样可以更好地让学生了解自己的成功所在，能更有效地激发学生的学习兴趣和动力。譬如，当学生在课堂对话表演中取得较好的效果时，我们可以说 “Well done! I think you will do better next time.” 当学生在学习上取得进步时，我们可以说 “You are getting better with your lessons. Thank you for your hard working.”通过类似这样的描述性的评价，让学生在潜移默化中受到影响，使他们不断的成功中获取信心，促进他们的成就感。四，评价手段必须具有多样性在我们平时的教学过程中，我们要采取灵活多样的评价方式对学生经常进行评价，避免长期采用老一套的评价方式。例如我在学生对课文内容的掌握情况时，总是设计判断、问题、简述、改写等多种口头或笔头的测试形式，而且根据不同层次的学生，设计难度不一的测试题，这样可以让不同层次的学生都能取得较满意的测试结果。灵活的评价方式可以让他们充分展示自己的才能；而多样性的评价可以让学生多方面地表现自己，从各方面挖掘他们的才能，使他们看到光明，看到前途。
